“A man is rich,” observed Henry David Thoreau, “in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone.”
What defines our life are the number of concerns occupying our time and energy. Thoreau’s point is it’s beneficial to identify these concerns and then determine if they are ones we want to focus on. And if not, to consider setting some aside. Because “rich” is a feeling that results when we direct and dedicate our time and energy in productive and meaningful ways.
Our 32nd Life Equation is Rich = Productive + Meaningful.
