One of the hardest aspects of life is when we experience an event that prompts us to despair. Typically that event involves a loss that leads to a state of suffering. Such an event and loss can be physical, emotional, relational, vocational or spiritual.
Chip Conley is an author who came up with this helpful equation to help move us beyond despair. He said:
Despair = Suffering – Meaning.
One way to move beyond despair is to take the time to find the meaning behind, beside, inside and in front of our suffering. If we fail to take the time to discover meaning in our suffering the result will likely be despair.
