In 2016 we began to have the option to save 10 seconds. That was when Netflix invented the ”Skip Into” button. Yesterday I read how on Netflix in a typical day that button is pressed 136 million times, saving members 195 years of time.
Which got me to pondering what it means to choose to “skip” something. Yes, there is an “Intro” button on Netflix, but don’t we also typically want to skip lines at the airport or in a grocery store? Which raises a fascinating question about how we relate to time and events in our lives.
Because if we’re always seeking to skip a moment to begin a future moment it might be helpful to ask, what are we missing within that pursuit? What if there was something to experience or learn in the Intro? What if the line had something to teach us?
