When We Least Expect

I got on the elevator last night after work. The buttons are hard to read as they are not illuminated. I was distracted and instead of pushing the first floor button, I pushed the button beneath that one, and suddenly instead of going down, we went up and quickly. Our office building has maybe 20 floors, the elevator took us to the top floor, stopped, and then went down. It felt like we were in a Batman movie.

You can find a picture of the button at on-emotions.com. It looks like the letter S. I looked it up and that button can mean different things. It can be a “sound” button; or if there is an emergency that button supposedly can take you to a secure floor. Overall, there’s not a lot of information about the S button.

This got me to thinking in our lives, at one time or another, we all likely end up inadvertently pushing an S button that takes us in an unexpected direction. A button that momentarily releases us from feeling we are in control. A button that takes us on a ride we didn’t expect. A button that reminds us life can hold mystery and surprise when we least expect.
