I continue to follow the Boston Celtics in their pursuit of an 18th NBA Championship. They recently went up 3-0 in the Finals, a seven game series, and things looked promising. But last night they lost in a major blow-out loss to Dallas.
A few days ago I was fascinated by a comment coach Joe Mazzulla made about a pursuit of a championship. He said, “The closer you are to winning, the closer you are to losing.”
I suspect what he meant was the closer we get to achieving a major goal, the closer we are to failure because the stakes rise as does the pressure. Recognizing and managing that reality is an aspect of learning what it takes and means to hold a trophy.
