Of Safety And Risk

I keep thinking about a quote I read yesterday by Francis Ford Coppola. He said, “It’s so silly in life not to pursue the highest possible thing you can imagine, even if you run the risk of losing it all. You can’t be an artist and be safe.”

Coppola was the director of The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and most recently the Megolopolis, which he reportedly helped pay for with $120 million of his own money.

At on-emotions.com you’ll find a remarkable portrait of Coppola accompanying the article with this quote. And it conveys what it looks to live one’s life on the border of safety and risk and then when choosing more than once to cross it, the toll and blessings such crossings involve and create.
