“Do it for the plot,” encouraged Dean Anne Curzan yesterday at the University of Michigan commencement.
“For the plot” is an expression that has been popular the last few years on social media. The basic idea is to be open to doing something that will move you to the next plot point of your life.
A “for the plot” decision recognizes it could turn out well, or not, but the point is to take the risk to move forward the plot of your life. Good advice for graduates, and for the rest of us as well.
