The NFL draft will be held on April 25th. There are 32 teams and 7 rounds so 224 players will be selected.
A lot of money is at stake. The difference between what the first selection in the first round earns and the first selection of the second round is about 4 times more. The last selection of the first round and the last selection of the second is two times.
There are lots of camps and what are called combines to help teams select players and there is a lot of discussion about who will be in the top-ten of players selected.
It is an extraordinary stressful situation for the players and that’s why University of Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s approach has caught the attention of NFL scouts. He is known for meditating before collegiate games by the goalposts and carrying himself with a positive attitude. And at a recent scouting event instead of wearing a number so coaches could identify him on the field, he wore what people call a “signature smiley face” on the back of his jersey.
That led me to ask, how might my attitude change if I literally or imaginatively put a smiley face on my back? Studies show optimism can positively impact our physical and mental health. So today, shall we try it? Shall we wear our own version of a McCarthy signature smiley face?
