Until Doors Open

On the subway yesterday a man who appeared homeless was stepping into the car when the doors suddenly closed on him, but then he stood there – likely feeling immense pressure – for maybe 8 seconds. I have seen similar situations where this occurs and usually someone steps back and the doors close in front of them. But this man stood his ground until the doors opened and he stepped into the car.

And it occurred to me at various times in our lives the subway doors close on all of us and when we feel that pressure we have a choice to either step back onto the platform or endure the pressure until it lifts and then step forward.
