“Nobody will stop you from creating,” said Kurt Vonnegut. “Do it tonight. Do it tomorrow. That is the way to make your soul grow.”
If we believe our soul is a divine gift created by the God who created the universe, then it makes sense as we chose to facilitate and participate in creating something – dinner from a new cookbook, caring for an orchid, learning to play guitar, taking an online painting class – something inside us expands.
That expansion could be a new appreciation for our senses as we cook with an unfamiliar spice, or we observe how different colors interact and augment each other on a canvas.
Brianna Wiest notes how creating, “lifts you out of your human experience and into another.” Meaning, by choosing to create “tonight… tomorrow,” as Vonnegut put it, we can perceive our life and its unexplored possibilities from a broader perspective, which is helpful description of a soul that is growing.
