Our Indelible Marks

We visited a Picasso exhibit at the MOMA depicting work he did one summer painting in a garage in Fontainebleau, France.

In the exhibit I read how Picasso said, “There is no abstract art. One must always begin with something. Then one may remove all appearance of reality… [because] the idea of the object has left an indelible mark.”

It’s interesting to consider the ideas we spend our lives working on that inevitably become “abstracted” by our own choosing, or by events that occur in our lives. Ideas behind our relationships, work, play, creativity. And then to ask ourselves, what “indelible marks” have those ideas left that shape and remain behind the abstractions of our lives.
