It is easy to be impacted by people’s opinion of our clothes, hair style, fitness, talent, profession, ideas, or dreams. A negative comment can deflate us. A slow response to a proposal or an idea we sent can make us doubt ourselves.
I came across a fascinating way to counter such situations and that is to know our purpose. Jalen Hurts, a former Alabama and now Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, puts it this way, “Before anybody had an opinion of me, I had my purpose already.”
Purpose provides persistence.
Purpose creates resilience.
Purpose accepts feedback, but it does not invite opinion to outweigh what our mind, body and soul seeks to accomplish.
So the next time you’re in a situation where you feel that opinion is adversely impacting you, think, before opinion, purpose.
