Tendefinitely

I was talking with a colleague yesterday about scheduling an important meeting on a day when I had significant other tasks to accomplish. So I said smiling, “I think I can commit to making that work somewhere between tentatively and definitively.”

Then I thought, it would be helpful if there was a word that described feeling at the same time both tentative and definite.

In other words, a word we could use when we feel more than tentative regarding a commitment, and yet often for complex reasons can’t quite be definite.

Then I thought, what if I combined those two words and made a new word – tendefinitely.

When I shared this new concept and word with my colleague she said, “I totally get it.”

Later that night I wondered if life itself might be a space and a state of tendefinitely.

Meaning, from how galaxies, stars and planets constantly move and transform, seasons flow one into the other, and aspects of our work, relationships, dreams, and our sense of who we are as a person, fluctuates and evolves, are we not always in a space and state between tentative and definite?

And naming it, perhaps, can help us live more comfortably and vulnerably with others, and how we perceive and interact with the world around us.
