Yesterday I was reminded how one of our eyes is dominant. Likely, you knew this already, but it was not something I had really considered or had thought through.
What is fascinating is the test to see which eye is dominant (which you will find below) is decided by which eye keeps an object more centered in our line of sight, while the other eye cedes this “centered” space to the dominant eye.
It’s interesting to consider what is dominant in our life and whether the result of this dominance is that something is “centered” in front of us.
For example, does our dominant emotion (love, sadness, joy, frustration) center things in our life, or not so much? Beyond emotions, if we apply that same test to any dominant aspect of our life, the question can be asked, does it center us?
Here is the dominant eye test:
- Form a circle with your hand and fully extend your arm in front of you.
- Look through your hand circle at a distance object, like a clock or a door knob.
- Close one eye and then the other, and take note of the object’s position.
- The object will stay centered with your dominant eye open.
