Last night I learned it doesn’t matter how hard you play a harpsichord as the volume will remain stabile because the instrument’s strings are plunked rather than hammered.
I also learned the name of a piano was originally “piano forte,” which is translated as “soft loud,” as this instrument offered a musician the ability to play notes either soft or loud, decreasing or increasing the volume
It occurred to me as my friend was explaining each instrument’s relationship to volume that at times we all might need to create harpsichord moments in our lives – relationships, hobbies, and work that settle in a stable range and do not fluctuate. But there are other times, we need the ability to play our life “piano forte.”
