To Be A Live Fish

“Only dead fish go with the flow,” observes Derek Sivers, one of my favorite writers on how to live our lives.

Sivers’ point is if we “go with the flow” this means we no longer affect the direction we are traveling. The current is taking us in its direction.

Now, at times in our lives we might need to “go with the flow” due to circumstances beyond our control or if we need to rest.

But what Sivers is pointing out is to chart our own course means to necessarily swim with and against the current.

To be a live, instead of a dead fish, means to alter things around us as the current flows over, around and against us.
