I was watching Stanley Tucci’s travel show in Italy and was taught how there is a peak time to pick basil – when it’s six inches high. You shouldn’t pick it an inch shorter or taller. If you think about it, that’s how basil appears in grocery stores.
Which led me to consider how every project has a peak time when it’s important to stop and to say it is complete.
How do we know when that time is?
I suspect it is a lot of trail and error. Asking for other people’s opinion. Discovering that the 5 inch and 7 inch measurements that apply to our project are not quite right. But the sooner we develop our “basil measurement skills,” the more we enable a project to reach its full potential.
