“You put the right artist on the right track in the studio and leave the door open,” said Jay-Z, “to let God in.”
We visited the Jay-Z exhibit at the Brooklyn Library and he said those words while filming a documentary about making a new album. Jay-Z is a rapper, won 24 Grammys, is a social justice advocate, and became a billionaire in 2019.
From where an artist’s creativity emerges is a fascinating topic. Producer Rick Rubin points to what he calls “the Source.” Bono, the lead singer of U2, talks about God walking through the room while writing a song.
What I like about Jay-Z’s comment is it reminds us to leave a door open so God might be present in our lives and our creative efforts. Is your door open?
