The basketball player Kobe Bryant was known for the intensity he brought to the game of basketball, but in particular to how he practiced. Kobe enjoyed passing along insights he had learned in his successful career, where he won five NBA championships.
One of his sayings that has always stuck with me was, “outwork your potential.” Kobe often attributed his success to that simple concept.
If you took a moment and honestly assessed your potential, what would come to mind? How would you describe it?
Bryant would then ask, if you decided to outwork it, what might happen? In other words, what is on the other side of what you imagine you might accomplish. The answer, of course, is there is only one way to find out.
