2nd century Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote down his observations on life and leadership in one of my favorite books, Meditations.
In one of its more helpful passages Aurelius offers advice on how to persevere through life’s many challenges. He wrote:
“You have to assemble your life yourself—action by action. And be satisfied if each one achieves its goal, as far as it can… accept the obstacle and work with what you’re given, an alternative will present itself—another piece of what you’re trying to assemble. Action by action.”
What might change if you approached that obstacle you’re facing – at work, spiritually, physically, relationally, emotionally – “action by action,” choosing to “work with what you’re given” and trusting an “alternative will present itself,” namely the “piece” you need to overcome the challenge in front of you?
