What is it that you do first?
Are you the first one up in your home? The first to load the dishwasher, pay the bills, embrace new music, or make a reservation at a new restaurant?
I was on a walk in a large, beautiful garden, and passed by a section of August lilies and noticed how one bud had clearly bloomed first.
It might sound strange, but I could almost sense the joy that bud felt to be the first one to open. A photo of the flower is at on-emotions.com.
I learned August lilies typically appear in August (thus the name). Its green leaves look like hearts, its white flowers are trumpet shaped, and unlike similar plants, they produce more than one crop of leaves and flowers.
The thought also occurred to me, in an August lily plant there must always be one bud that opens first to greet the world; one bud yearning to display its beauty; one bud that does not want to miss a moment of what the day holds.
What might change in your life if you decided to be the first August lily flower to bloom in your garden? How might it feel if you decided to open first? Who might notice if you did?
