Fixed Forever

The great photographer Herni Cartier-Bresson once said, “photography… fixes forever that precise and transitory instant. We photographers deal in things that are constantly vanishing, and when they have vanished, there is no contrivance on earth that can bring them back.”

I recently came across a lovely book of photographs by Richard Quinney called, Things Once Seen, where he shared 75 photos he had taken over the past 40 years. These were photos he felt an emotional connection with and wanted others to experience. They were also moments he described that were no longer: people and images once seen that would never happen again.

Have you ever curated your own 40, 30, 20, 10 year album of photographs?

Images that capture who you are, where you have been, and whom you love?

Moments that have been once seen and at the same time, as Cartier-Bresson put it, fixed forever.
