On a quiet side street in Tokyo, notes the magazine Monocle (one of my favorites), you will find Morioka Shoten, a tiny bookshop that sells only one particular book at a time. That book then changes every week.
The idea of a one book-bookstore came to founder Yoshiyuki Morioka when he was working at another store on launch events and noticed a singular focus on one book was good for sales. Then as Morioka shares, “It occurred to me that I could make a business if I sold just one book. It’s been a hit.”
As Monocle reports “Each week’s book is presented on a table in the front window… The shop has won the approval of authors, who enjoy a space that allows them to engage directly with their audience. Fans travel from across Japan and beyond to visit a shop whose success proves the power of a simple idea in a crowded market.”
When we have clarity as to exactly what we want to offer others, an emotional connection can result.
Do you have one simple idea you’d like to share with others?
Paintings, clothes you make, photographs, yoga, drawings, poetry, a book, a blog, a business idea, recipes, etc.
There is power within your one idea.
What might happen if you opened your own Morioka Shoten?
