What makes your computer run is called an OS, or operating system. My iPhone, for example, now runs iOS 16.6.
Outside of computers, it’s helpful to consider what operating system we are using to run our lives.
Here are a few examples:
An operating system can be a book like the Bible, the Torah, or the Quran. A book can guide us towards wisdom that has been tested by generations and found to be helpful and worthy of following in our lives.
An operating system can be principles that have been passed down in our family or culture. Principles like “we help people who need help,” or “when opportunity comes, it’s too late to prepare.”
An operating system can be how we experience nature and lessons it teaches us like – there are seasons in life and if you care for and nurture a seed, it will sprout and grow.
Identifying our operating system links our life to something beyond ourselves, assuring it’s not just our foibles and whims that are guiding what will might think and do next.
