We were enjoying one of our favorite book stores in Harvard Square when we came upon a table with twenty books wrapped in sand-colored paper with labels that read, “Blind Date with a Book. “(You’ll find a picture at on-emotions.com.)
Each book had a sharpie written quote to entice you to go on a blind date with that particular book. The quote we were drawn to was, “Beauty was not simply something to behold; it was something one could do.”
The cost of that blind date book was $7.50. Who could resist? We later opened it to discover it was a book we had never read, Toni Morrison’s first novel The Bluest Eye, a book that launched her career. What a wonderful and inspiring surprise.
When was the last time you invited the emotion of surprise into your life? When was the last time you chose to go on a blind date – not with a person – but with an idea, a potential new hobby, a museum, a park, or a book?
When was the last time you went on a blind date with beauty?
