When Professor Dacher Keltner taught a course called “Human Happiness” at UC Berkeley, he would invite students to imagine that a Happiness Button had been invented.
If a person chose to press it, they would become happier. He then asked his students: “Would you press the button?”
Can you guess what percentage chose to press it?
56%.
36% chose not to. And 5% opted out of the poll.
Would you press it?
It’s a question that invites us to reflect on our relationship to happiness. Are we happy right now? Do we want to feel happier? If there was a way to feel happier, would we we chose to take a step in that direction, or not?
