Call it Knobbing

Most of us are running a perpetual conversation in our heads. We talk to ourselves. We replay or rehearse a conversation. We worry or plan.

This conversation can make it hard to experience the emotions of contentment, gratitude, happiness.

One way to stop talking to ourselves is to imagine our mind has a old school knob from a car radio or sound system. A knob that can turn the volume off in one smooth motion. This is different than car radios or sound systems with buttons that decrease the volume one tap at a time.

So the next time you feel your mind is full of words that are making you anxious or stressed, try turning the knob all the way to the left in your mind and in the silence take ten slow breaths.

Some people call this meditating, but that word can be intimidating.

Just tell yourself you’re… knobbing.
